Peter Kyle AM
Peter was born in England and educated at Cranbrook School in Kent and Oxford University where he obtained a Master of Arts (Jurisprudence).
Peter immigrated to Western Australia in 1967 and obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Western Australia in 1968 before commencing his Articles with the legal firm, Dwyer & Thomas. He subsequently became Senior Partner of that firm and remained in that position from 1972 - 1989. In 1989 he formed his own practice, Kyle & Company, specialising in commercial conveyancing and litigation and public law, including Local Government and Planning law.
Peter has been a Director of a number of WA listed public companies including Coventry Group Ltd and was a Foundation Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Peter has played a leading role in Local Government in Australia. He was elected a Councillor of the City of Nedlands in 1974 and served in that capacity for 14 years with a period of 10 years as Deputy Mayor. He later served a number of years on the Council of the City of Subiaco and was Deputy Mayor of that City for two years He was President of the Local Government Association of Western Australia in 1983 - 84 and President of the Australian Local Government Association in 1987 - 1988.
The Australian Local Government Association is the national representative association of all Local Authorities throughout Australia and, as President, Peter was responsible for leading Local Government in its dealings with the Federal Government on issues such as road funding, revenue sharing, rationalisation of Government activities, the devolution of Federal powers, the housing crisis, community services, the environmental debate and constitutional conventions.
In 1992-94 Peter headed formal inquiries into the Wanneroo City Council and the Boddington Shire Council commissioned by the Minister for Local Government.
Peter has served on many statutory boards and other community organisations including the following:

- Deputy Member of the Town Planning Board
- Chairman of Tresillian Community Centre
- Member of the Board of Graylands Teachers’ College
- Member of the Council of the Claremont Teachers’ College
- Deputy Chairman of the WA Teachers’Tribunal
- Member of the Executive Committee of Torch Bearers for Legacy
- Chairman of Fairbridge WA Inc.
Peter was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2003.
